The playmaker

Article Abstract:

Emap Radio is making considerable progress with plans to set up a dedicated dance music channel to compete with MTV in the UK, according to founder and chief executive Tim Schoonmaker. The company is a very strong operator in local radio in the key popular centres in the north of England, and now plans to move into television broadcasting too. It owns Kiss FM in London, and is moving into television through Kiss TV, this station's television unit. It is also looking at local cable channels formatted around its radio station brand names.

Going, going...

Article Abstract:

Major UK commercial radio broadcasters Capital Radio, Emap Radio and Virgin Radio have expressed an interest in acquiring a stake in Ireland-based radio station Atlantic 252 from CLT UK Radio. CLT aims to focus on national radio stations as they are perceived as offering excellent growth potential. The company has only just begun to turn some of its stations into profit but does not want to make further investments in local radio station. CLT will not sell all of its 80% stake in Atlantic 252 and may consider partners instead.
