The role of multimedia conglomerates in American trade book publishing

Article Abstract:

Large media conglomerates, such as CBS, ITT, and RCA, control much of the book publishing industry in the US and subsequently have taken advantage of their bigger and more profitable mass media connections to advance book sales. The conglomerates have used television, films, and magazines to promote certain books and influence book-buying trends. Technological advances in interactive multimedia such as CD-Rom and on-line products will also have an impact on national publishing trends.

Media discourse and the Danish monarchy: reconciling egalitarianism and royalism

Article Abstract:

A new form of publicness has been made possible through the media event. The 1995 wedding of Prince Joachim of Denmark was covered in a positive way by the Danish media, suggesting media representations of monarchy serve to maintain public allegiance to royalty. The media not only create a sense of unity in live broadcasts of royal media events, but a sense of participation in the event.
