United's southern show

Article Abstract:

United News and Media is investing heavily in its operations on the UK south coast and East Anglia. ITV licencees Anglia Television and Meridian, both of which are owned by United News and Media, are installing new studio facilities, and are set to substantially increase their output. Make or news break?

Article Abstract:

The BBC is facing considerable challenges as it makes the final preparations for the launch of its BBC News 24 rolling news service. However, it is confident that the service will run smoothly, despite significant problems with the Electronic News Production System and the OmniBus digital picture editing and transmission system. News 24 staff have undergone extensive training, and managers believe that employees are now in a strong position to cope with a fully automated and multi-skilled newsroom.
