Working together for better fisheries science

Article Abstract:

The role of the newly formed Cooperative Research Partners Initiative (CRPI) in developing collaboration among the fishing industry, marine science and fishery management communities is discussed. The Annual Meeting to be scheduled in Anchorage, Alaska, USA in 2005 with the theme 'Creating a Fisheries Mosaic: Connections Across Jurisdictions, Disciplines and Cultures' is highlighted.

Integrating social values into fisheries management: A Pacific Northwest study

Article Abstract:

Responses from the program leaders and managers in fisheries management to make a questionnaire requesting information about the use of social and community values in decision-making are summarized. Significant differences of opinion regarding the use and integration of social and community values information in decision-making that exist among our respondents are discussed.

An overview of Salmonid fisheries planning by State Agencies in the United States

Article Abstract:

Effective planning is requisite for sound salmonid fisheries management, but there has never been a comprehensive assessment of the planning efforts of state agencies charged with this responsibility. The study indicates the first attempt to gain a broad overview of state agency planning for coldwater fisheries management.
