AFCON starts to make a mark

Article Abstract:

Bazan, a Spanish shipbuilder, has entered into an agreement with Bath Iron Works Corp and Lockheed Martin Corp to establish the Advanced Frigate Consortium. Bazan, together with its two partners in the consortium, believes that the consortium has much to offer countries searching for advanced surface warships. As part of its efforts to promote the consortium, Bazan introduced the F-100 frigate Don Alvaro de Bazan for the Spanish Navy at Euronaval in Paris, France.

Turkey buys A 69s from France

Article Abstract:

Turkey plans to buy six D'Estienne D'Orves (Type A 69)-frigates from France. The deal calls for the delivery of three 'Avisos,' namely, Quartier Maitre Anquetil, Commandant de Pimodan and Commandant Drogon, in mid-2001, after routine maintenance work. The 25-year-old frigates will be renamed Bandirma, Bodrum and Bozcaada. Under a separate agreement, the Turkish Navy will purchase Exocet MM38 SSMs for use on the A 69s which are already Exocet-capable.

Peru to modernise Lupo-class and Type 209s

Article Abstract:

Peru is embarking on further modernization programs for its Casma (Type 209) submarines and Carvajal (Lupo-class) frigates in 2002. The frigate propulsion upgrades will include replacements for diesel generators and engines. The missile systems will also be upgraded, with Otomat Mk 2 and Aspide anti-air warfare missiles named as possible contenders. The diesel generator refits to some of the nation's eight submarines will be undertaken by SIMA.
