Precision strike - the impact on the battle space

Article Abstract:

Precision guided munitions (PGMs) have made little progress since the Vietnam War. Despite the advantages they offer over conventional munitions, PGMs only accounted for less than 10% of the 88,000 tons of air munitions that have been expended by the US during the Gulf War. Criticisms that the accuracy of PGMs was only about 50% during Desert Storm miss the mark because the technology is only beginning to mature and this accuracy is better than that of unguided munitions.

IMPACT down under

Article Abstract:

The Australian Defense Force (ADF) has signed an agreement with the French/Italian Eurotorp joint venture for the supply of the MU-90 IMPACT lightweight torpedo. The IMPACT is already being used by the French, Italian, German and Danish navies. The first phase of the contract calls for the integration of the IMPACT with all the launching platforms of the ADF. The deal also calls for the involvement of several domestic Australian defense firms.

Torpedo defence: What are the chances?

Article Abstract:

The introduction and progressive development of increasingly sophisticated anti-torpedo defence systems offers a way to reduce vulnerability. This in turn would guarantee a sufficient level of survivability through maintaining or regaining control of the underwater battlespace.
