NATO's endeavour points the way for maritime security operations

Article Abstract:

NATO marked the fifth anniversary of Operation 'Active Endeavour' in December 2006, which was primarily set up in October 2001 to show its determination and solidarity after 9/11 to conduct maritime security patrols to detect terrorists, board suspect vessels and deter and disrupt illegal activities. It has since gone through numerous changes to its size, scope and sophistication to come at a point where it is regarded as something of a benchmark for the conduct of maritime surveillance and security.

Multisensor fire-control systems keep on track

Article Abstract:

The requirement for precise target tracking and accurate fire control has become increasingly burdensome. Thus, navies have adopted multi-sensor weapon-control systems that combine the long-range, all-weather performance offered by radar with the high angular resolution, positive identification and electromagnetic silence offered by electro-optical sensors.
