Aerial battlefield transport

Article Abstract:

The US Army is undertaking a 20-yr service life extension programs for the majority of its 431 CH-47D Chinook cargo helicopters. The extension program is intended to continue providing for its aerial cargo needs until the completion of the Joint Transport Rotorcraft. The operations and support costs for the Chinooks have increased because of their age. High-speed ejection

Article Abstract:

The Air Force continues to develop combat aircraft pilot ejection systems that address numerous requirements such as accommodations for a broader range of male and female aircrew sizes and weights. One of the most difficult needs to address has been the determination of the maximum speed which enable state-of-the-art ejection seats to afford a low likelihood of injury. Engineers with the help of their Russian counterparts are designing ejection seats that allow for successful, injuy-free escapes at speeds of up to 730 knots equivalent air speed.
