Air defense guns - Do they have a realistic chance against modern anti-ship missiles?

Article Abstract:

The anti-ship missile systems employed in the US, British and German navies are discussed to clarify whether air-defense guns have a realistic chance as replacements for modern anti-ship missiles. Although guns offer advantages over missiles in terms of reaction time, life-cycle cost and operational flexibility, their performance depends also on the efficiency of the ammunition and fire control system.
