The value of expeditionary engineering in theater engagement and combat support

Article Abstract:

The value of expeditionary engineering is very vital because it provides a means to support mobility, security and sustainment of forces where other means of infrastructure development are not viable. The United States Marine Corps 9th Engineer Support Battalion provided support to Operation Enduring Freedom in Basilan Island, Republic of Philippines.

One of the primary concepts of maneuver warfare is the creation of the 'main effort,' or the decisive action, and this is helped by various supporting efforts. Methods of improving coordination, control, and communication between these efforts is discussed.
