Albanian crime laid bare: The development of Albanian organized crime groups in the Balkans

Article Abstract:

The past and present activities of Albanian organized crime groups in the Balkans, which started with first exploiting smuggling opportunities, then moved on into people and drug trafficking, are examined. The organized crime perpetuated by the infiltration of the Albanian crime groups into the political systems of some western Balkan countries has led to a breakdown in values, where it has apparently become acceptable and even expected for business and political leaders to engage in illegal activities.
