Answering the Call to Duty

Article Abstract:

General Peter J. Schoomaker discusses the remarkable accomplishments of a soldier-focused approach in fighting the global war on terrorism. The US Army created the Combat Action Badge to provide special recognition to soldiers who personally engage the enemy or are engaged by the enemy during combat operations, to recognize the efforts of those who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and in keeping the spirit of warrior ethos.

Embracing jointness

Article Abstract:

The Army's first Joint Fires and Effects Course (JFEC) conducted at Fort Sill, Oklahoma completed in late 2004 indicated the importance of jointness. The U.S. Army embraces the concept of jointness and simultaneously applies the benefits of joint operations to broaden the complete spectrum of battlefield effects.

The Vietnam advisory effort

Article Abstract:

The US Army is taking efforts to advise and support Vietnam, Iraq for assisting them in fighting alongside them. Capable Vietnamese battalions did benefit from the training imparted but could perform well only in the presence of American guidelines and were unable to adapt according to the nature of war.
