Anti-air missile systems - Able to cope with an increasingly sophisticated threat?

Article Abstract:

Naval task forces, despite their inherent mobility, still face significant threats from air, naval, and submarine-launched cruise missiles, due to the greater threat posed by the increasingly sophisticated anti-ship missiles of modern era, which are a combination of improved delivery systems and onboard electronics. An overview of worldwide development of such technologies is provided considering the future of 2020 and beyond with new non-missile technologies, and fewer missile systems to handle the anti-ship cruise missile threat.

Standard Missile gets $81 million contract

Article Abstract:

Standard Missile Co has landed an $81-million contract to supply the US Navy (USN) and the governments of Canada and Japan with its medium-range missiles. Under the contract, the USN is to receive 68 SM-2 Block IIIB missiles and 73 ordnance alteration kits to modify existing SM-2 Block II and III missiles to the Block IIIB configuration. Japan will get five Block III missiles, while Canada will receive 10 Block IIIA missiles.
