At last! Coast Guard gets new class

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Coast Guard's Hamilton-class high-endurance cutter would be replaced by the new 421-foot National Security Cutters in October 2006. This National Security Cutter consists of 57mm gun, close-in weapons system, and 50-caliber guns and has an endurance of 60 days. The specifications and features of National Security Cutter are discussed.

Weathering the storm: Naval shipbuilders struggle to resume operations in Katrina's wake

Article Abstract:

Hurricane Katrina hit the central coast along the Gulf of Mexico on 29 August 2005 and disrupted United States Navy's most important shipbuilders. The result of the disaster is that most of government's ship construction programs are delayed and are affecting new construction programs of 2006 and 2007.
