Australia is facing regional pressure to improve ASW capabilities, says report

Article Abstract:

The research conducted by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) has highlighted the need for Australia to upgrade its anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities to face the growing threat from submarines in the Asia-Pacific region. Australia will not be able to conduct major naval operations in waters patrolled by strong and heavily equipped armed submarines of the regional countries without modernizing and expanding its military facilities.

Australia juggles high technology, great expectations, tight funds and low volumes

Australian defence companies, restricted for many years to supplying their goods and services locally, are subject to a high and low cycle due to lack of big equipment orders stretching over a long period of time. Australian defence companies work under mainly tight export rules and low funding, while the shortage of skilled personnel is a persistent local problem.
