Avoiding a relapse to attrition warfare

Article Abstract:

The presentation on the projected role of Future Combat Systems (FCS) at the 23rd Army Science Conference suggested that airpower and precision strike technology could be used in advance to eliminate the threat of the enemy before forces need to move in and maneuver on the battlefield. This vision of war is a step backward to a slower process of conflict and though airpower and precision strike must be seen as vital parts of the larger ground battle of annihilation they cannot be used to substitute for it.

Terrorism, missile defense and decisive warfare

Article Abstract:

The war that is being forced upon the United States, through the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, will bring the country into a wider scope of conflict than any since World War II. It is also a war in which the US should seek 'unconditional surrender.'
