Media and television reports on the Vietnam War resulted in a negative public opinion on the war, which was transferred to the warriors returning from Vietnam. The alleged murders by American Marines in Haditha, Iraq, are being projected extensively by the section of the media opposed to the Iraq War, making it imperative for the leaders at the platoon level to imbibe and teach their Marines qualities, so that they are greeted with respect and gratitude by the public on their return home.

Electronic warfare (EW) is an essential fires capability available for employment by the Marine air-ground task force (MAGTF), which can be used to destroy enemy centers of gravity. The recent conflicts such as the Diyala Bridge and Operation Iraqi Freedom illustrate the importance of nonkinetic fires and EW in achieving the desired end state.
