Beslan shows growing Islamist influence in Chechen war

Article Abstract:

The suicide bomb attacks in Russia mark the culmination of a year of terrorist incidents that underline the extent to which the war in Chechnya is resulting in a conflict, an Islamist terrorist campaign aimed at destablishing Russia and breaking its southern Muslim regions from Moscow's grasp. The attacks demonstrate the extent to which the Russian administration has failed to deal with the Chechen crisis on either a military or political level and has no answers to forestall further terrorist attacks.

Israeli organized crime is fragmented but growing

Article Abstract:

Organized crime in Israel has remained fragmented, opportunistic and increasingly effective force both nationally and globally, despite the influx of Russian criminals and the subsequent turf wars experienced in 1990s. The growth of new criminal activities and a new underworld conflict that erupted in 2003 might mean that fears of a consolidation of Israeli organized crime could become real.
