Can the fighter force hold its edge?

Article Abstract:

The ability of the US Air Force to dominate the skies in future battlefields has become uncertain due to the threats posed by advanced foreign fighters and surface-to-air missiles. During the 1990s, defense procurement was significantly reduced, resulting in aging aircraft which will severely limit the scope of US military operations. At present, the US Air Force is upgrading its aging fighter force until replacements are able to reach squadron service.
