Closing the seams: Dealing with the counter-IED fight in Iraq

Article Abstract:

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs), effectively used by insurgents against the coalition forces in Iraq, have necessitated a counter-IED fight. The Army's 555th Combat Support Brigade (Maneuver Enhancement) conducts the counter-IED fight by breaking down the fight into fundamentals, identifying the seams and gaps that exist and closing them through proper intelligence, and utilization of force structure.

The Major Subordinate Command (MSC) wanted Iraqi Security Force (ISF) to be more proactive in security operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. The Iraqi people require some help in setting the conditions for prosperity of the nation, as they desire a free nation.

Partnering with the Iraqi security forces

One of the central objectives of the Multinational Forces in Iraq is to make the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) capable of providing security for Iraq. The details of the insights and lessons learned by the partnering of Task Force 2/7 with the ISF are presented.
