Cougars take the lead in mine protection for US forces in Iraq

Article Abstract:

The US Joint Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Defeat Task Force has contracted Force Protection Inc of Charleston, South Carolina, to supply a total of 122 Cougar 4x4 and 6x 6 mine-protected vehicles for the US Forces in Iraq. The Cougar can be customized for multiple tasks including troop transport, mine and explosive ordnance disposal, command and control, reconnaissance and as a convoy lead vehicle.

Turkish Army looks toward SD fuze demo

Article Abstract:

A demonstration will be staged for the Turkish Army in the US of L-3 BT Fuze Products Division's M223E 1 pyrotechnic self-destruct (SD) bomblet fuze. The Turkish Army intends to acquire improved conventional munition (ICM) bomblet projectiles with an SD capability for its Firtina self-propelled and Panter 155 mm 52-calibre towed howitzers.

Coalition forces are investing in technologies designed to detect and trigger improvised explosive devices (IEDs) before their contact with troops. The wide scale use of remote-control (RC) IEDs in Afghanistan and Iraq has led many companies active in the sphere of RCIED countermeasure have felt encouraged to come out in the open.
