Creation of AFRICOM headquarters marks broadening of US spectrum of operations

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) is the first main headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) created to lead the expansion of the US government's security, humanitarian and diplomatic exchanges to 53 nations on the African continent. AFRICOM will follow various diverse philosophies laid out in the significant 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review.

Italy's ITS Salvatore Todaro joins NATO's 'Active Endeavour' for operational debut

ITS Salvatore Todaro, new Type 212A submarine, is deployed for its operational debut to join NATO's Operation Active Endeavour' (OAE) maritime security operation. The boat will doing surveillance and counter-terrorism operations for nearly two months under the command of COMSUBSOUTH.

EU activates new OpsCentre for MILEX 07

The new EU Operations Centre (OpsCentre) was activated for the first time in mid-June for MILEX 07 and one of its first activations, the centre coordinated operations between two headquarters elements in Belgium and Sweden.
