Design considerations of lightweight torpedoes

Article Abstract:

The philosophy embodied in the design of lightweight torpedoes of the US Navy is one that can be best described as fire and forget. However, due to the changes in the arena of international politics, the US Navy has concentrated on the development and testing of torpedoes in a shallow water littoral environment. Among the torpedoes that can be used in this type of environment are the Mk-54, Stingray Mod I and the TP-46 which have the capability to counter threats posed by conventional submarines while still having enough firepower to attack nuclear submarines.

Detection of UUV, torpedoes and swimmers

Article Abstract:

Accurate identification of threats and protection against asymmetric threats like unmanned underwater vehicle (UUVs), torpedoes and swimmers is critical for naval forces. The novel technology providing this kind of security is Wireless Sensor Networks that can now be implemented to achieve the required high quality of security.
