EMIR - the electronic minefield referee

Article Abstract:

SACLANT has launched a research at SACLANTCEN to examine inexpensive techniques of simulating mine threats during NATO maritime exercises with the objective of enhancing the realism of mine warfare. SACLANTCEN has developed a program called the Electronic Minefield Referee (EMIR). EMIR users can stipulate the attributes of a minefield through the use of a 'wizard' which can process the features such as arming time, sterilization time, geographical location, minefield type, target type, target speed and target depth.

Low frequency sonar technology for ASW

Article Abstract:

Low frequency active sonar systems for anti-submarine warfare are needed to cope with the threat posed by small diesel electric submarines in shallow environments that are characterized by large numbers of false targets and high reverberation levels. Any decibel in gain due to directivity in the the receive and transmit antennas is therefore required to cope with unfavorable classification and detection. The same is also true for signal processing.
