Engineering America's fleet

Article Abstract:

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in Arlington, VA, is the ship- systems program manager, engineer, and technical authority of the US Navy. NAVSEA coordinates with the US Navy and the defense industry in the design, development, construction and maintenance of the US Naval Fleet, covering both the ships and their shipboard weapons and combat systems. The command has a budget of $13.8 billion for the FY99, accounting for nearly 17% of the US Navy's total budget of $81.5 billion for the fiscal year.
