South American cocaine trafficking operations shift towards Venezuela

Article Abstract:

Several groups involved in cocaine trafficking in Columbia have shifted their operations into Venezuela, increasing the traffic through that country and raising the potential for corruption among state officials under pressure from counternarcotics campaigns in Columbia. The potential for narcotics revenues to corrupt state officials are reflected by allegations of corruption and complicity in drug trafficking among some Venezuelan military personnel.

Drug smuggling route uncovered

Article Abstract:

The Spanish police have uncovered a new drug smuggling route between South America and Europe in which they raided a car showroom alleged to be used for laundering drugs money and seized a yacht off the Canary Islands. The complex route taken by the yacht through the islands, and the quantity of drugs being carried, shows that the network was using the voyage as a test run for smuggling larger quantities into Spain in the future.
