Firearms and drugs fuel conflict in Brazil's favelas

Article Abstract:

The criminal gangs in Rio de Janeiro are looking for military-like expertise to increase their capability when confronting the state police. The escalating confrontation between gangs and police have led them to target police for attacks as well as to obtain their weapons and the only way to break the gangs is to cut off their sources of income by bringing educational campaigns to reduce drug use in the city.

African drug trade: Drug trafficker head west

Article Abstract:

The transatlantic drug traffickers use West Africa as a stopover for the illicit shipments so that they can break down the cargo and deliver it to Europe in smaller, harder to detect batches. Columbian traffickers have created logistics calls in the region to facilitate trafficking while various new methods of entry into Europe used, from speedboats to flights to small airports.

Law agencies target criminality in European motorcycle gangs

Article Abstract:

The European chapters of the Hells Angels and Bandidos motorcycle gangs have come under increased scrutiny by law enforcement authorities in recent years, due to the involvement of some of their members in organized crime. A report on the investigation and the way the new legislation in Denmark has helped secure arrests is presented.
