Scenarios for 2007: Scenario one: Unitary Iraq

Article Abstract:

The political situations of Iraq in 2007 are assessed by using various scenarios depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the central government. The development of a stronger cross-sectarian Iraqi Army with low-level US assistance and commanded by the federal government are some of the possible mechanisms for the reversal of state weakening.

Article Abstract:

The political factors affecting Iraq are assessed by using various scenarios depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the central government. The continuity rather than change might characterize the development of Iraq in 2007, which would in essence mirror the gradual deterioration of the political, security and social fabric of the country.

US responds to Iraq IED threat

Article Abstract:

The US military is investing heavily on new protection, prevention and intelligence countermeasures as the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have increased in Iraq. The Joint IED (JIED) Defeat Task Force might serve as a template for many of the adaptive US military responses to asymmetric threats in the future.
