First Pakistani Agosta SSK rolled out at DCN Cherbourg

Article Abstract:

DCN Cherbourg is conducting sea trials for a new diesel-electric hunter-killer submarine for the Pakistani Navy after its launching fron the shipyard. The submarine is part of a contract for three naval submarines worth $950 mil. The contrac also includes agreements on technology transfer, technical assistance for submarine construction in Pakistani naval shipyards and retrofits of air-independent propulsion system. The new submarine is armed with F17 Mod2 533mm wire-guided heavyweight torpedo and SM-39 encapsulated version of Exocets.

South Africa approves plan to buy corvettes and SSKs

Article Abstract:

The South African cabinet has approved the proposals submitted by the South African navy (SAN) for the procurement of four patrol corvettes and three diesel-electric submarines. The government will have to set aside more than $1.1 billion for the four corvettes and another $853 million for the three submarines. However, SAN's proposed acquisition of four helicopters has been deferred to keep within the government's cash limits.

Russian Navy moves forward with 'fourth generation' SSNs

Article Abstract:

Several reports of defense system development, contracting, or delivery are led by news that Russia has already begun design on a successor to its recently deployed '3rd-generation' Gepard-class nuclear submarines.
