Technology and machinery will continue to become more sophisticated, but America's military effectiveness will rely primarily on human performance, both individually and collectively. The importance, and training, of soldiers is discussed.

The infantry squads, and those who man combat vehicles, are the competitive edge offered by the US Army. These close-combat soldiers perform a number of vital services in warfare, but their supporting units must be maintained as well.

The importance of information technology to military planning cannot be overemphasized. Specific recommendations are presented for incorporating this technology with organization and doctrine designs.
