German and export sales set to boost Atlas Electronik's DM2A4 torpedo production line

Article Abstract:

The German defence ministry (MoD) confirmed that the German defence procurement agency Bundesamt fur Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) is expected to place its first series production contract for DM2A4 heavyweight torpedoes for the German Navy in October-November 2005. The contract will support the DM2A4 production line at Atlas Elektronik's naval weapons plant in Wede, near Hamburg, open for another two-three years.

German soldier networking system evolves

Article Abstract:

Rheinmetall Defence Electronics (RDE) is selected to design the follow-on version of the German Army's Infanterist der Zukunft (IdZ) future soldier system, the initial service version of which was developed and is produced by EADS in 2006. Known as the IdZ erweitertes System (IdZ-eS) or extended system, the new ensemble is expected to offer an improved networking capability, particularly with higher command levels.

Thales puts German frigate fleet on the operating table for open heart surgery

Article Abstract:

German and Netherlands-based branches of Thales will upgrade German Navy's 12 frigates with a new combat management system (CMS) based on the tactical command system-network centric (TACTICOS-NC) and sensor, weapon control-and-command system-data distribution service (SEWACO-DDS). The CMS upgrade will extend the operational life of the F122s to beyond 2015 and the F123s beyond 2025.
