Article Abstract:

The Senate Armed Services Committee has recommended an additional defense budget of $9.2 bil for FY99. The supplemental budget includes a $2 bil increased spending for intelligence programs. The committee members also sought to provide $200 mil for military bases damaged by floods and another $210 mil for anti-drugs operations conducted by the Coast Guard. The additional spending for defence programs will also cover expenses for the military's modernization and acquisition programs.

Closing the global strike gap: near-term transformation of US power-projection capabilities requires a better bomber force

Article Abstract:

As part of a transformation of the US military, the bomber aircraft fleet plays a vital role in power projection and there is need for further development. Possible options include a new stealth bomber, further development of the B-2 bomber, and/or cruise missile development.
