HDW outlines new multirole ship design for military/civil missions

Article Abstract:

German shipbuilder Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW), part of the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems group, has developed a new medium-size Multi Role Vessel (MRV) design, which is inspired by the company's prior experience in commercial ferry construction. The new ship concept, the MRV 7500, aims at meeting the emergent requirements worldwide for affordable, multipurpose support vessels able to satisfy military tasks and civil relief missions.

DCN furthers SMX-22 submarine promotion

Article Abstract:

French naval shipbuilder DCN promoted its SMX-22 future submarine concept at the Undersea Defense Technology conference held on 21-23 June 2005 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The SMX-22 concept comprises of two small, 480-tonne operations (OPS) submarines with a crew of 10, a large, 2,750-tonne network-centric warfare (NCW) command submarine with a crew of 25 and accommodation for 40 more.

HDW unveils modular submarine concept

Article Abstract:

The German submarine builder Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) and hoistable mast supplier Gabler Maschinenbau revealed a concept of setting up existing submarines with exchangeable mission modules, to design new boats. The new designed boats would enable the owner to easily adapt the boat to changing operational requirements, roles and missions.
