Hu speaks out

Article Abstract:

The resolution of the current anomaly of dual-centre leadership, with Hu Jintao in the top party and government positions and his predecessor Jiang Zemin led to increasing pressure both from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA). In respect to Jiang's speech, Hu said that some local authorities and departments are seriously overrun by formalistic and bureaucratic styles of work, fraud, extravagant behaviors and various other negative and corrupt phenomena.

Consensus or power struggle?

Article Abstract:

The nature of the China's new government is beginning to be revealed in the words and actions of the nine men from the Politburo Standing Committee in March 2003. The handover of political power to the 'fourth generation' of post-revolutionary leaders would be completed in March when the National People's Congress (NPC) selects its new president and government.

China struggles to satisfy thirst for water

The growing scarcity of water in China is becoming very critical for its economic growth. The consequences of the water shortages are already being felt internationally, despite many infrastructure projects are being used to solve the problem.
