IEDs emerge as major weapon in Nepal's Maoist insurgency

Article Abstract:

The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) and other independent sources have described that the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by Nepalese insurgent group, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), have increased. Maoists are using the IEDs to attack the RNA, government forces and officials, as well as infrastructure.

Prime minister resigns as Nepal's security deteriorates

Article Abstract:

The Prime Minister of Nepal, Surya Bahadur Thapa, resigned on May 7, 2004 following a month wide protest from the five main opposition parties. Failure to stabilize the political situation in the county and the deterioration of national security were the main reasons for his resignation.

Truce breaks down in Nepal

Article Abstract:

The eight-month break between Mauist insurgents and the Nepal government forces led to flaring of violence in Nepal. The government addressed that it will not compromise on the question of Nepal remaining a constitutional monarchy with multi-party democracy.
