Illegal drugs trade thrives in Nepal's security vacuum

Article Abstract:

The emerging problem of trading in illicit drugs and the increasing production of cannabis due to presence of Maoist insurgents has led Nepal to lose its control as a result of continuous changing nature of patterns of production and consumption. For this purpose Narcotic Drug Law Enforcement Unit (NDLEU) is introduced that deals with fighting the growing and evolving problem of illicit drugs in Nepal.

Royal Nepalese Army adapts to counterinsurgency role

Article Abstract:

Insurgents from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) are evolving new tactics and expanding their operations and support base to improve its own counterinsurgency capabilities. The Maoist is increasingly using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to deny access to territory and inflict damage on security patrols.

Macedonia prepares to elect new president

Article Abstract:

Macedonia is preparing for the first round of voting for presidential elections that is expected to take place on 14 April 2004 with the sudden death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski. There are suggestions that Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski would be the Social Democratic Party of Macedonia candidate.
