Jordanian counterterrorist unit thwarts chemical bomb attack

Article Abstract:

Jordanian security forces thwarted a major counterterrorism operation, code named 'Sharp Sword' to launch a chemical bomb on three high-value targets in Amman that include Dairat al-Mukhabarat, the Office of the Prime Minister and the UB Embassy. Jordan's special counterterrorism unit, Battalion 71 of the Royal Jordanian Special Operations Command, was able to apprehend and kill the operatives implicated in the plan within 12 hours of the first shot being fired by the first entry team.

Tashkent bombings signal rise in Islamist activities

Article Abstract:

The series of shootings and bombings in Tashkent at the end of March 2004 has focused attention on the security situation in Uzbekistan and the activities of Islamist groups in the region. The investigation revealed that all the events of bombing and shooting are interconnected and aimed at destabilization of the country.
