Antiterror technologies: NATO turns to countering unconventional threats

Article Abstract:

The NATO leaders are going to approve for the defense-against-terrorism work program at the Istanbul, Turkey summit on 28-29 June 2004. Reducing vulnerability of widebody civilian and military aircraft to man-portable air-defense missile, countering improvised explosive devices and new technology for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance are three among the eight areas, which would be focused upon by the NATO.

Five-nation F-16 wing: European air forces expand cooperation

Article Abstract:

Five NATO nations, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal will share their fighter jet assets to establish an expeditionary air wing that could be tailored to support a variety of operations at minimal cost. The European Participating Air Forces (EPAF) is a cooperative effort of the five nations, which are equipped with F-16 fighters.

Combat jet-makers acknowledge that acquiring contracts is extremely tough in a crowded international market despite lots of sales opportunities. Asia is one of the largest prospective markets for Lockheed Martin F-16, the Saab Gripen, Eurofighter, the Dassault Rafale and the Russian Sukhoi Su-30 and many NATO nations are also following its footsteps.
