LUIGI EINAUDI: a new carrier concept for the Italian Navy

Article Abstract:

The Italian Navy is exploring a new carrier concept that utilizes a design presently known as New Multi-Purpose Amphibious Major Unit (NUMPA), which virtually mirrors a new concept for STOVL/Helicopter carrier design. The Navy originally asked for the name VITTORIO VENETO for the vessel, but the government opted for LUIGI EINAUDI, which is the name of the country's first president after World War II. The NUMPA design bears a resemblance to a scaled down version of the WASP class LHD. It also has a similar design with the French BIP concept Multi-purpose Intervention Vessel.

Italian defence exports

Article Abstract:

Italy's defense exports have dramatically declined over the past 10 years, and their recovery is one important pre-condition for the revival of the Italian defense industry. The export decline is due to a number of causes, one of them being the tortuous process of formulating a new defense export law. Efforts to revive exports, however, will depend on the ability of the national defense industry to play a major role in the integration of the European industry.
