Light, medium and heavy weight naval helicopters: Tasks and capabilities

Article Abstract:

Changes in maritime warfare since the end of the Cold War, such as requirements of the global war on terror, have enabled the naval helicopter to move personnel and cargo along with its sensor and weapons fit to play a vital role in amphibious operations and littoral warfare. The variety of light, medium and heavy weight naval helicopters available on the international market are discussed along with the existing and likely acquisitions by navies of different countries.

Naval helicopters: A 2004 survey with outlook into the future

Article Abstract:

The role of naval helicopters is very extensive and includes anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM), in addition to its other roles. AugustaWestland's A109 Power, EH Industries' EH101 Merlin, Eurocopter helicopters Kaman's SH-2G SUPER SEASPRITE and NH Industries' NH90 are some of the naval helicopters that are presented.
