Maersk MPS ships fill gap before MPF(F) comes online

Article Abstract:

Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF), the modified version of the Maersk Line Limited's Maritime Prepositioning Ships (MPS) are forward-deployed to the western Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The successor of this program will be the Maritime Prepositioning Future Force (MPF(F)) that will not come online till 2016 and the challenge is to keep these ships maintained and mission-ready and meeting the Marine Corps' requirement until MPF(F).

Avio strikes gas turbines deal with Polish Navy

Article Abstract:

Italian company Avio signed a deal in 2007 to supply Poland's Gdynia Naval Shipyard with LM2500 gas turbines for the Polish navy's lead Project 621 Gawron II-class corvette. The 10 million euro contract marks the company's first marine propulsion export to Poland, and will include production and delivery as well as integration of the power-packs into the vessel.

South Africa's naval rejuvenation program reaches home straight

Article Abstract:

The fleet recapitalization program of South African Navy (SAN) is approaching the completion in March 2007 with the handover of the second of three Type 209 submarines at ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems' Nordseewerke yard in Germany. The Navy's four MEKO A-200 frigates are in service and continue to receive upgrades as per the force's rejuvenation program.
