Maoist insurgency spreads in India

Article Abstract:

The militant Maoist movement in India represents a serious challenge to state rule and is India's biggest internal security threat, by which the Maoists or Naxalites aim to establish a 'people's government' in the countryside by domination through coercion and indoctrination. Since 2004, the militants are increasing recruitment and improving their arsenals by attacking armories and jails and purchasing weapons, and has threatened to target multinational companies in India.

Cross-border links strengthen India's insurgent group

Article Abstract:

The Indian government negotiated peace with the Maoist People's War Group in October 2004, as the insurgent movement showed signs of extending cross-border association with other insurgent groups. The past experiences show that the rebel groups use such negotiation periods to regroup and expand themselves.
