Marine artillery in the battle of An Nasiriyah

Article Abstract:

The task organization, sequence of events and artillery specific lessons identified by the Marine Artillery of 1st Battalion (Reinforced), 10th Marines (1/10) from a Nasiriyah battle that can be characterized as a military operation in urban terrain are discussed. The Regimental Combat Team-2 (RCT-2) encountered extremely violent confrontation with people occupying the urban terrain of An Nasiriyah and an eight-day urban battle was fought against paramilitary forces and remnants of the Iraqi 11th Infantry division.

The battle of An Nasiriyah

Article Abstract:

The battle fought in and around An Nasiriyah, a large city in southern Iraq, was not an ambush but a deliberate attack against an enemy stronghold in response to the attack on a U.S. Army convoy. The enemy resistance countered by a coordinated and determined attack resulted in a battle that lasted for 3 hours, but the victory was hard fought and won.

Ready and willing

Article Abstract:

Nearly 52 percent of Marine Corps Reserve force were mobilized to support Operation Iraqi Freedom and are also supporting operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and elsewhere. It is suggested that there is a need to mobilize the battalion that would enable them for a more seamless transition.
