Modular propulsion for modular warships?

Article Abstract:

Modular propulsion systems are being developed for modern warships to result in better compactness of ships and to enhance maneuverability at all speeds. Rolls -Royce and Northrop Grumman are developing the WR-21fuel-saving engine, more efficient than the gas turbine, ALSTOM is developing Advanced Induction Motors (AIM) and Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) motor control systems, and water jet motors are more efficient then propellers, with fuel cells in motors enabling all-electric warships.
