Movement from front to back heralds US Army refining its Land Warrior ensemble

Article Abstract:

The battalion-sized interoperability testing of the US Army's Land Warrior by the 4th battalion 9th Infantry Regiment of the army's fourth Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) has resulted in a physical redesign and repackaging of the soldier ensemble. The dismounted ensemble comprises of an integrated helmet assembly, combat net radio system, computer substation, land navigation subsystem, user interface, weapon user interface, daylight video system and two 12-hour battery packs.

The US is fortifying homeland security with new anti-terror teams under Operation 'Noble Eagle' and dispatching the US Coast Guard (USCG) on complex joint-agency assignments. As part of Operation Noble Eagle, the USCG has assumed a heightened state of alert protecting more than 361 ports and 152,855 km of coastline, known as America's longest border.

USAF begins evaluation of Fischer Tropsch synthetic fuel blend in bomber test flights

Article Abstract:

The US Air Force (USAF) has started flight testing a synthetic fuel blend derived in part from a non-petroleum source by using Fischer Tropsch (FT) technologies. The FT process, originally developed by two German engineers in the 1920s, is one of the alternative fuel options being explored by the air force under its service-wide energy strategy.
