Navy League confronts cold war challenges

Article Abstract:

The Navy LeagueEs senior leaders confronted the cold war complacency by educating the public about the vital role played by the American sea services both in national security and in supporting the nation's economic well being. The Navy League's Advisory Council on Naval Affairs (ACONA) leaders helped the American citizens by alerting them about the threats posed by the communists in 1960s and urged them to follow self-discipline, high standards of morality and support the principles of good citizenship.

Sea cadets and the shipmate program

Article Abstract:

The Navy LeagueEs senior leaders have organized the Buddies program or Shipmate program that sponsored cruises aboard the U.S. Navy ships for high school-age boys who might be interested in pursuing a career in Navy. The Sea Cadet program has two categories, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) and the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), for the youngsters that provide training in seamanship and other nautical skills.

From the street to the fleet: the Navy's sailorization process begins at Great Lakes

Article Abstract:

The Great Lakes Naval Training Center, north of Chicago, IL, comprises more than 1,100 buildings on more than 1,600 acres. It teaches recruits Navy values, and starts their career-long training, education, and vocation development program.
