New Escort pitches in

Article Abstract:

The Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) Materiel Command is expected to release the three contenders for the final round of the service's six-ship New Escort Vessel program. The program calls for the industry to propose a frigate design for the New Escort Vessel (Project SMP 6088) with a 4,000-tonne displacement and an anti-submarine warfare capability. The first unit of the New Escort Vessel, which will replace the service's four remaining Oslo-class frigates, is scheduled to be commissioned in 2004, with the other units to be delivered at yearly intervals until 2009.

Chile announces Tridente contract

Article Abstract:

Blohm and Voss AG won a contract to build the first batch of four Tridente frigates for Chile. Its MEKO 200 design was chosen in 1999 and the German shipyard will work with local builders Asmar as the prime contracting consortium. Chile is still considering the option of acquiring the A-200 variant, as chosen by the South African Navy. The A-200's main diference is its waterjet which would be fitted alongside two conventional propellors, giving the vessel 100% dual redundancy in its propulsion systems.

Netherlands order for MIRADOR

Article Abstract:

Thomson-CSF Signaal has entered into an agreement with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) for the delivery of four MIRADOR systems to be installed on four air defence frigates being built for the RNLN. MIRADOR supports the crew in detecting, tracking and identifying targets at daytime, nighttime and in poor visibility. The system's extra visual support is claimed to be increasingly important in 'brown water' operation.
