Article Abstract:

North Korea's progress on both ballistic missile and nuclear weapons tracks means the US and its regional allies will feel under pressure to re-examine their deterrent versus defensive policies. Japan, Taiwan and even South Korea might increase missile defense co-operation with Washington, but North Korean nuclear missiles and China's military build-up could also lead to greater pressure on Washington to accept their allies' requirements for offensive deterrent capabilities.
