Sweden's Stockholm class set for upgrades

Article Abstract:

Kockums Naval System has won a SKr270-million ($32.1-million) contract to perform upgrades for the Royal Swedish Navy's Stockholm-class guided missile corvettes. Under the terms of the agreement signed with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, the two vessels will receive substantial improvements on their command and control and propulsion systems. The Malmo and the the Stockholm will also get new sensors as well as a number of changes to their superstructure.

Singapore selects French stealth

Article Abstract:

Direction des Constructions Navales of France has won a contract from the Singapore Ministry of Defense for six new stealth frigates for the Republic of Singapore Navy. The contract covers only the hull, machinery and platform systems, and does not include combat and other electronic systems. Under the contract, the French shipbuilder will build the first frigate at its shipyard in Lorient and deliver it in 2005. The other five frigates witll be constructed locally by Singapore Technologies Marine.

Norway favours Bazan/Lockheed Martin frigate solution

Article Abstract:

Empresa Nacional Bazan of Spain has become the leading contender to meet the Royal Norwegian Navy's (RNN) requirement for six new escort frigates (FFGs) following the withdrawal of the NORESKORT Group consortium that includes Kvaerner and DCNI. Bazan's partner in the $1.6 billion competition is Lockheed Martin Electronics and Surveillance Systems, whose Aegis-based integrated weapons system is the preferred solution by the RNN for the new FFGs. Blohm + Voss, which is partnered with Celsius, is also competing.
