Kongsberg and Lockheed Martin fix Norwegian frigate workshare

Article Abstract:

Lockheed Martin has entered into an agreement with Norway's Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace (KDA) to develop and build key elements of the integrated weapon system for the Royal Norwegian Navy's frigate program. The transaction defines KDA's workshare as a major partner to Lockheed Martin naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems. Think tank recommends scrapping horizon project

Article Abstract:

UK's Defense Forum has recommended the withdrawal of British participation in the Horizon project for the development and construction of a 6,000 ton anti-air warfare warship. The organization considers the project costly and that the vessel may not meet operational needs due to the nonexistence of combat management systems and non-integration of electronic warfare systems. However, the Forum recommends the retention of Principal AAW Missile System (PAAMS) based on the Franco-Italian Aster-30 missile.

U.K. defense industry cheers Horizon withdrawal

Article Abstract:

The UK defense industry welcomes the decision of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to withdraw from the Project Horizon Common New-Generation Frigate (CNGF) program. The MOD hopes to buy 12 frigates beginning in 2007 to replace the Royal Navy's 12 Type 42 destroyers. British Aerospace appears to be the future major contractor of the new Royal Navy air- defense frigate because of its imminent takeover of GEC's Marconi Electronic Systems, which owns yards where the frigates could be built.
